Afew years into early retirement, one investor realized that the stocks his broker had recommended were performing poorly. In the Midwest, a second investor's father had passed away, leaving a slew of brokerage accounts the man wanted to consolidate for his elderly mother, who would need assistance in managing the money. A third investor, a widow in her eighties, was drawn to the TD AMERITRADE branch near her home in Oregon by the offer of a free portfolio review. "What's the harm in having a review?" she recalls thinking. "Maybe they have some new ideas."
All of these investors are TD AMERITRADE clients, and their stories suggest how a range of tools and advice can aid in planning for different goals. Imagine a continuum of solutions based on different levels of involvement in managing your finances. At one end, you do everything. At the other, you hand over all decisions to a professional advisor. In between are two other approaches, and for all four, TD AMERITRADE has developed unique tools and services.
